Acacia Concinna(shikakai) is a shrub-like tree that grows in the hot, arid plains of Southern India, traditionally used for hair care, It is one of the Ayurvedic medicinal plants.

 

Shikakai pods are similar to tamarind in appearance. Shikaki forms a lather because of the presence of saponins. It is traditionally used as a shampoo and body wash.  Also known as Soap pod in English it is an potent ayurvedic remedy for healthy, long hair.

    Our products are all natural and does not contain any preservatives, stabilisers and fillers, they need your care and attention.
    Store the products away from wet and damp places, and as soon as you recieve do transfer the contents into an airtight jar and use a dry spoon to scoop the product. Do not use wet spoon or wet hands. 
    Alternatively you can place the product packets in a big air tight box or any big cover and secure the ends tight and tranfer them at your ease.

    How to Use Reetha and Shikakai for Hair? 

    Overnight soak shikakai pods, reetha, and amla in water. The next day, bring the water to a boil until all of the ingredients have softened. Strain the mixture thoroughly and use it as a hair shampoo.

    Method 1

    Ingredients

    Water 1ltr
    Methi 1tbsp
    Amla 1 - 2 (approx 20grms)
    Reetha 6- 8 pods (approx 15grms)
    Shikakai 4 to 5 pods( approx 15grms)
    Hibiscus leaf 10 to 12
    Hibiscus flower 4 to 6

    Soak all the ingredients overnight in water, next day deseed the reetha pods and boil till the water reduces to 1/2ltr.

    Once cooled mixie it and strain, store the liquid shampoo in a dry glass jar, in a cool dry place.

    1. How long will this stay fresh?
    This liquid shampoo stays fresh for 3 to 4 days at room temperature and 1 to 2 weeks when refrigerated

    2. Can it be used by kids?
    Yes can be used by all age groups.

    3. Can we skip or add other ingredients?
    Yes you can alter the recipe according to hair type, the one above is a basic shampoo plus conditioner.

    4. Will my hair dry out after using this shampoo?
    No, Hibiscus leafs and flower along with methi will condition your hair.

    5. Will it remove oil from my hair?
    Yes it will remove oil from your hair, if incase it doesnt remove increase the soapnut quantity in your shampoo, as each persons hair is different.

    6. Can I make large batches and store?
    Yes you can store it in refrigerator.

    7. Can I replace fresh ingredients with dry ingredients?
    Yes you can add dried hibiscus leaf/petals powder and amla powder.

    8. Should I soak it overnight?
    You should soak it for a min 6 hrs.

    9. What should we do with the left over pulp?
    You can compost it or add as manure to plants

    Method 2

    Ingredients

    Water - 2 cups (300ml)
    Clear Bioenzyme - 2 cups (300ml)
    Methi 1tbsp
    Amla 1 - 2 (approx 20grms)
    Reetha 6- 8 pods (approx 15grms)
    Shikakai 4 to 5 pods( approx 15grms)
    Hibiscus leaf 10 to 12
    Hibiscus flower 4 to 6

    Add the ingredients in jar - preferably in plastic jar (as glass may break due to Bioenzyme fermentation, glass jar used in the video is only for representation purpose).

    Allow the ingredients to rest for 15 to 20days. Post 20 days strain the liquid and store in an jar.

    1. Can we store this shampoo?
    Yes, this shampoo can be stored at room temperature for 6months.

    2. Can we crush the ingredients before we strain the liquid?
    Yes, you can make a past and strain the liquid. Compost the remaining pulp.

    3. Is it suitable for all hair types?
    Yes, natural products are suitable for all hair types and age groups. But still always make a patch test.

    4. Should we dilute the shampoo before use or should we use it directly?
    You can use it directly.

    5. Will it make my hair dry?
    Each hairtype is different and each persons hair routine is different, so try to check if it makes your hair dry.
    If incase it makes hair dry, follow it up with albiza hairpack or hibiscus leaf pack post shampoo

    6. Does it remove oil?
    Yes it removes light oil. For heavy oil use little reetha powder.

    7. Can we add dry ingredients?
    Yes you can add fresh or dry ingredients accordingly to the available.

    8. Can we add other ingredients like curry leaves, flax seeds etc?
    Yes you can add them.

    Its simple and easy to make plastic packaging free, all natural shampoo at home, shift to natural living.

    How to Use Shikakai for dishwashing? 

    Overnight soak shikakai pods in water, The next day, bring the water to a boil until all of the ingredients have softened. run it to a smooth paste and use it to scrub your dishes.
